“Mom is the woman who loves and cares”: A woman adopts the baby of her husband’s late ex-wife!

Christie and Wesley Werts embarked on a heartfelt journey to unite their families, creating a close-knit, loving bond between Christie’s daughter, Megan, and Wesley’s children, Austin and Dakota. Despite facing concerns about Christie’s age, the couple remained optimistic about expanding their family.

Their path took an unexpected turn when they joyfully welcomed a new addition to their lives through adoption—baby Levi. The couple’s story began five years earlier, when they fell in love and decided to blend their families by getting married. While the idea of having a biological child seemed challenging, their miracle arrived in the form of Levi, a beautiful baby who became a part of their lives in a special way.

Born prematurely at just 33 weeks in Texas, his biological mother, who had been battling addiction, tragically passed away just four days after giving birth. Neither Christie nor Wesley were aware of the pregnancy, as it stemmed from a previous relationship, making the news of Levi’s birth a shocking revelation.

When Christie and Wesley learned of Levi’s heartbreaking circumstances—having no one to care for him—they were deeply moved. Christie, who had experienced foster care herself, felt an undeniable call to give Levi the loving, stable home he needed.

Remarkably, before they even knew about Levi, Christie had been having vivid dreams of a blonde-haired, blue–eyed baby. She took this as a sign that adopting Levi was meant to be. Upon finally meeting him in Texas, Christie felt as though her dreams had become reality.

Though their hearts were set on bringing Levi home, the adoption process was far from easy.

Christie and Wesley had to sell their home in Ohio and move to Texas to meet legal requirements. Complicating matters, Levi’s biological father still had custody rights, which prolonged the process and added layers of complexity. What followed was a lengthy journey involving court hearings, home visits, and interviews over a span of 16 months.

During this time, Christie and Wesley shared parts of their story online, receiving both encouragement and criticism. Despite the challenges, they remained committed to the joy of giving Levi a forever home.

After a long wait, Levi’s adoption was finally approved, making him an official member of the Werts family. Now a thriving two–year–old, Levi is surrounded by love and cherished by his parents. Christie and Wesley plan to share the story of his adoption with him as he grows, celebrating the incredible blessing he has brought to their lives.

Though they encountered some negative feedback along the way, the Werts family’s incredible journey was embraced by many who offered love and support for them and their precious son, Levi.
